Community: The Four Essentials

The Four Essentials of a Community Group
What participants should expect from their community groups

Our church's mission is to be Christ's church in this place. We believe that one of the places this happens best is in smaller community groups. Community groups offer a place where people can grow in authentic relationships with Christ and each other by meeting together regularly, studying God's Word together, praying together, and caring for one another. We call these four things the essentials.

When you join a community group you can expect to journey with others as you do life together. As you get to know others in your group, our desire is that you begin to gain a sense of God's presence. By meeting together regularly you can expect to find a place to belong and meaningful friendships. Our ultimate goal is to grow strong disciples.

Prayer is the quintessential way to experience God's presence and to develop authentic relationships with others in your group. Prayer allows us to converse with the King of the Universe. It allows us to share our needs with each other, knowing that a loving Father God hears our prayers and enters into our joy and suffering.

Studying the Bible in community is one of the most fruitful and rewarding ways to become a strong disciple. The Bible is living and active, "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God might be proficient, equipped for every good work" (II Timothy 3:16-17). Getting into God's Word is essential in the life of a Community Group.

Community groups offer a natural arena for care to take place. Getting to know people and living life together allows us to enter into the needs of others. Receiving care at a time of sickness or heartache is one of the core benefits of participating in a Community Group. Knowing that you are not alone, but have others who genuinely care about you is what Christian community is all about.
